Welcome! I’m Phyllis Ginsberg, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for 15 years, who consciously created my own healthy lifestyle at age 19, after I received my first blood test results. Fear was my motivator. I had been raised eating the typical American diet and found out that I had very high cholesterol. I was a bit overweight and it wasn’t uncommon for me to gain then lose 10-15 pounds a year during my teens. I learned a lot by seeing and hearing about people suffering and dying from not taking care of their bodies. This included my mother who died at age 37. She was a smoker, ate poorly, was overweight, didn’t exercise and was not a happy person. I came across classes for the Pritikin Program, became a vegetarian, and in 6 weeks lowered my cholesterol to a normal level! At the weekly classes I saw people old enough to be my parents and grandparents, changing their health by changing their eating and starting to exercise. It was easy for me to stay motivated because I felt so good and was surrounded by others doing the same. It was a relief to see that I had control over my cholesterol. This was the beginning of me creating a healthy lifestyle.
Also at age 19, I learned Transcendental Meditation, studied kinesiology and I attended lectures at health fairs. I was interested in overall health and well-being and was looking at different modalities for dealing with stress. I later pursued my interest in psychology by getting a masters degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling.
Fast forward to my life today: I have raised two daughters with my husband of 30 years. And for fun, after volunteering with the American Stroke Association training adults to complete their first half-marathon, I coordinate our group of friends as we continue to participate in half-marathons. Almost every Saturday for over 5 years, my husband and I have been out on the trails training. It is another part of our lifestyle of healthy living.
My mission is to make a difference in peoples’ lives and health, including children, by sharing what I know and have learned about creating and living a healthy lifestyle. I will be introducing you to a variety of information in the areas of positive psychology, cognitive-behavioral theory, energy healing, food choices, and over all health, along with resources, suggestions and recipes! It will be like going into a clothing store and seeing a variety of items, trying on some and seeing which ones are a good fit. I invite you join me. Creating a healthy lifestyle involves finding what works for YOU, and I would be honored to be part of your process.
Love, Health & Happiness,
Phyllis
